Science in Schools: £12.1 million government investment to support pupils

New findings published this month revealed that 25% of schoolchildren are interested in pursuing a career in science, prompting the government to allocate over £12 million to support science in schools. The report, OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), also showed that 75% of pupils in England believe science lessons help prepare them for life after school. The £12.1 million science in schools investment will last until 2019 and includes continued professional development for teachers, best practice for schools and bespoke in-school support. Department For Education: Keeping Children Safe In Education From September 2016

This statutory guidance for schools and colleges covers all aspects of safeguarding. The guidance was published in May 2016 for implementation from September 2016. Specific safeguarding issues relating to Education Technology are sexting and cyberbullying. Annex C provides specific guidance relating to online safety. Here three categories of risk are identified and there is a requirement that appropriate filters and monitoring systems are in place. The guidance does not specify the detailed filtering and monitoring requirements, stating simply that their appropriateness (ie what they actually are) is a matter for individual schools and colleges.
