Stop motion is the process of animating an object by taking a series of still pictures and moving the object a tiny amount each time – just like a flip-book. It is possible to produce amazing animations in this way (Wallace and Grommit was produced using stop-motion) and when it is used as a carefully planned activity with pupils, the learning gains can be huge.
To help schools get started with stop-motion animation we have been working on some stop motion tutorials in the office and have designed an Alien Character called Tut.
These are the processes we have included:
- Model making using plasticine and polystyrene
- Creating a basic set using paper and paint
- Animation and filming to create the film
- Editing the film and adding sounds.
The tutorials will be available in September from this site – watch this space..!!
